What is the name of your state? Wyoming
...Not because of anything I did or didn't do, but because the owner of the condo I'm in decided that they wanted to move someone from their family in. I currently have a month to month, which I understand that since there is no lease, I'm out! This all came as such a shock since I've already been here for 11 months. I'm not prepared to move financially or anything else for that matter. I feel this is SO unfair! It costs alot of money to move in which I don't have. Can't I hold them liable in some way for having to hire movers and the costs that the utility companies will charge to have all my utilities switched over? I have never heard of this kind of thing happening to anyone I've talked to! Isn't there something I can do?

You are going to have to move. It is very likely that if you don't move by the date given the LL will begin the eviction process.

I have been a landlord in WA & AK for 23 years and am kinda familiar with this. I am afraid there is nothing you can do but learn from this now. I feel bad for you but that's the way it goes on a month to month lease. Next time you rent a place, ask for a longer lease-a 6 month or 1 yr. lease. And remember, this works two ways-with a mo to mo lease, you could move on them with only a 30 day notice. I never like to do a mo to mo lease even though I have a tenant on one now because she is buying a place and when her lease expired she chose mo to mo and that protects her to not be obligated to rent for longer than a month at a time. Next time-make sure you cover yourself with a longer lease-if the landlord won't give you one than look elsewhere-it means that they could only be renting on a short term and you would fall into this mess again. Go find a copy of the Landlord/Tenant Laws for your state (they should be free at the courthouse or police station) and read up on the laws and know what your rights are for everything.
    Good luck.

Thanks for your caring response pla1554. I have learned alot from all that's happened. BTW, I made a mistake on how long I've actually rented my condo. I believe I stated 11 months when it's really been 14 months. I had just woke up when I wrote about it the 1st time. That's how much this has been on my mind lately. Anyways, things have gone well for us so far, I have a new place now and since I found it through the same management company they just transfered my deposit on over to the new place and I didn't have to pay any of April's rent there either. I was also given the full 30 days to take my time to move. I picked up the keys last Friday and have slowly begun to get stuff over there. It wouldn't have been so bad if the condo owners had given me more of an advanced notice than just 30 days. I really had to rush into looking and grab at the 1st best place out of 2 I looked at. I was afraid that if I took more time to look the 1st one would vanish. So take it from experience folks!! "ALWAYS" sign a lease!!

Proof I bought a condo in 2001 for 130k and it sold for 90k in dec of 2004. This is a ripple affect and its gonna be nation wide. In general but theres always hot spots.

yep, nothing you can do about this. you are a tenant-at-will and without a lease youre at the LL beckon call. Move now and avoid any more troubles with them. Are apartments that difficult to locate in your area?

It really says a lot about the LL when they do this sort of thing. Pieces of $HIT!
